Dr. Bonds is a true Texas native. He was born in Humble and grew up in Midland and Kilgore. He completed his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 and his dental and PhD research training at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry at Dallas in 2016. His love for science and patient care ultimately culminated into River Bend Dental. Starting this practice allowed Dr. Bonds to enjoy doing what he loves the most – helping people regain their confidence in their smiles or giving relief to people that are in pain. His calm and relaxed demeanor is his greatest skill in ensuring his patients receive the best care in a low-stress environment. Before you meet him in person, you can learn a little more about Dr. Bonds below.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dental Excellence in a Down-to-Earth Atmosphere
As a child, Dr. Bonds had a noticeable gap between his front teeth that he was very self-conscious about. His parents couldn’t afford braces, so his dentist used bonding to cover the space instead. Dr. Bonds still remembers going to school the next day and being able to laugh and talk without feeling like he had to hide his smile, and his friends and teachers noticed the change. He wanted to be able to pass on that feeling to other people, so dentistry was the path he chose.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Bonds was one of two students in his class who completed a Ph.D./DDS dual degree program at Texas A&M University. His research focus was on tooth development and genetics, including the relationship between missing teeth and certain forms of cancer. Because dental technology and techniques are constantly evolving, Dr. Bonds works hard to keep up with the latest findings through local study clubs and research publications.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Bonds’ passion for dentistry is only outweighed by his passion for his family. Life outside of the dental office is delightfully busy for Dr. Bonds and his wife, thanks to their six children, one boy and five girls – Jack, Maggie, Mary Ann, Lucy, Elinor, and Rose. They also have a mini-Australian Shepherd named Smoky and a Blue Heeler named Chili. He and his family are active members of the Catholic Church. When he doesn’t have his hands full being a dad, he likes to sing, play golf, and read.
